About this guide

This website is an independent guide to Deming Park. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the City of Terre Haute, its parks department, Tripadvisor or the tourism bureau. For operating details and reservations, use the official sources below.

Information was reviewed October 8, 2026. Hours, construction, fees and seasonal attractions can change. We link to current city information rather than publish an unverified schedule.

Visitor information

Pool and playground updates

The current city pool page (external website) confirms that the pool is closed for construction, with reopening scheduled for the 2027 season.

The mayor’s December 2025 newsletter (PDF) (external website) describes the pool reconstruction. Local reporting on March 26, 2026 (external website) states that the pool would be closed for the 2026 season. Opening dates should be confirmed with the city.

A city-issued playground invitation to bid dated October 2, 2026 (external website) describes planned work. This guide does not imply that the project is already complete.

The City of Terre Haute’s September 23, 2026 Facebook post (external website) confirms playground demolition has begun, with reopening anticipated in fall 2027. The construction schedule may change.

Park history

The dedication date is documented by the Vigo County Public Library (external website). The park’s landscape and train history are described in the Ohio Boulevard–Deming Park Historic District National Register nomination (PDF) (external website).

Photography

The wide Photos-page header is a decorative panoramic reconstruction inspired by the pond-and-path photograph, created for this guide on October 10, 2026. Its composition has been adapted for wide screens; it is not an unaltered photograph or evidence of current park conditions. The original photograph remains in the gallery below the header.

Photographs remain the property of their respective photographers and rights holders. Source attribution does not imply endorsement or a transfer of ownership. Locally hosted images have been resized and compressed for the web. Shelter photographs on the map load directly from the city’s rental portal.

Shelter listings and photographs

The map and rental directory includes all 26 options in Deming Park Shelter Rentals at the city’s ActivityReg portal (external website), reviewed October 9, 2026. Seating, amenities, booking notes and fees are dated information, not live availability or a price guarantee. The Torner room listing contains conflicting prices, which are disclosed in its entry.

Twenty-four facility photographs are displayed from the city’s listings and credited there. Alsop has no photograph in the reviewed listing; Holly shows a generic logo rather than a shelter photo, so neither has a photograph here. Photo ownership remains with the respective rights holders.

Map markers are approximate matches to labels on the older city drawing. Five rental locations could not be confirmed and appear in the directory without a guessed marker. The portal spells Oberlandler differently from the map’s Oberlander label; that possible name match is identified in its entry. Photos and map symbols do not establish accessible parking, entrances or routes.

Events and holiday media

The events guide uses dated announcements from the city special events page (external website), parks department’s October Halloween poster (external website), Vigo County Public Library (external website) and race organizer’s registration page (external website). The city page contains 2026 listings despite the 2025 in its address. Event announcements are reviewed before inclusion. Dates move to the past-events archive when they expire; that does not mean the source has been checked again.

Historical holiday media is labeled by season. The optional 2025 John Bush video (external website) uses YouTube’s preview and player. The 2025 race photographs (external website) and West Vigo’s 2022 display photo (external website) are linked at their original sources. The 2025 display results (external website) were reported by Julia Prickett for WTWO on December 10, 2025. Attribution does not imply permission to republish photographs.

Seasonal event illustrations

The seasonal images and the individual event illustrations on the events page were created for this independent guide on October 9, 2026. They depict imagined Halloween activities, holiday lights, a miniature train, running and display judging. They are labeled as illustrations and do not document Deming Park, a specific event, current conditions or accessible facilities. Real historical event media remains linked and credited separately above.

Weather data

Local forecasts and alerts come from the National Weather Service data service (external website). The forecast area uses the park entrance address, geocoded through the United States Census address service. Updates are fetched when the visit page opens or when a visitor selects Refresh weather.
