Spirit of Terre Haute · Independent visitor guide
Deming Park train rides: plan your visit.
Find the right schedule, check special-event tickets and plan your arrival at the miniature railway.
Train information and linked operator sources checked October 16, 2026. This guide does not show live ride availability.
What is the Deming Park train schedule?
The Spirit of Terre Haute is Deming Park’s miniature train. A single year-round operating timetable has not been verified for this guide. For an ordinary park visit, call Torner Center at 812-232-0147 to confirm whether rides are running on your date, the first and last departure, and the current fare. Park access and train operation are separate: an open park does not mean the train is running.
Special events may use their own hours and ticket arrangements. Check the listing for the exact event rather than applying one evening’s price to every ride.
A confirmed 2026 holiday date
The Vigo County Public Library lists Christmas in the Park Train Ride for Tuesday, December 1, 2026, from 6–8 p.m. Eastern (external website). The library says it will cover train tickets that evening for all ages. Its listing names Kaufman Station as the boarding point. This offer applies to that announced evening; it is not a promise of free rides on other dates.
Read the December 1 train-ride details, or browse the seasonal event listings for other announced activities. Confirm changes with the organizer before traveling.
Where do you go for the train?
Start with Deming Park at 500 South Fruitridge Avenue, Terre Haute. The city’s park page (external website) places Torner Center between Oakley Playground and the miniature train. For the December 1 library event, follow the organizer’s Kaufman Station boarding directions.
Use our park map and place directory to orient yourself before leaving. Locations are approximate. Follow posted signs and the operator’s directions for the actual parking and boarding arrangement, especially during construction or a busy event. A map marker does not confirm an open entrance or an accessible route.
Five useful questions before a train visit
- Is the train running on our date? Ask about weather cancellations and the last departure, not only the event’s overall end time.
- How are tickets handled? Confirm the fare, accepted payment methods and whether tickets are bought at the station or arranged separately.
- Which boarding point and parking area should we use? Share any arrival instructions with everyone in your group.
- What assistance is available? Ask about the approach to the platform, boarding steps, seating and arrangements for mobility aids or strollers. Accessible boarding has not been verified by this guide.
- Which facilities are open? Confirm the nearest restroom and any construction-related route changes before bringing a group.
If the train is the main reason for your trip, make this check before setting out. Leave enough time to find the station and follow any queue instructions; this guide cannot predict waiting times.
Build a flexible park outing
Pair a confirmed ride with one other activity that suits your group: a walk, a picnic or a look at the park’s ponds. Keep the rest of the plan flexible if rides pause because of weather or operations. Our things-to-do guide explains the park’s different activities, while parking and access information lists questions to ask about current routes.
Check the pool and playground construction updates before promising a swimming or playground stop. Photos of an earlier visit do not establish what is open today. For a gathering that needs a reserved shelter, use the separate shelter-reservation guidance; a shelter booking does not reserve train rides.
Sources and who to contact
Bell Tower Digital publishes this independent guide. The City of Terre Haute manages park operations; the library confirms its sponsored event. We checked the city’s Deming Park information and Torner contact (external website) and the library’s dated train announcement (external website) on October 16, 2026. For current operating details, call the operator rather than this website.
